How the animals are drawn

An animal cut file has to be recognised from its outline alone, so each set starts from a strong silhouette: the body, head, ears, legs and tail as smooth shapes, checked at thumbnail size. Details such as eyes, stripes, scales and feathers are then cut out of that shape, in a way that leaves the whole animal as one connected piece.

That matters when you cut. A one-piece design holds together in vinyl, card, wood or steel, and nothing falls out except the cut-outs. Each design’s page says how many pieces it has, how long the cut is and how thin its thinnest part gets at the size you plan to make it.

Questions

Are these realistic or cartoon animals?

Both. Each set has plain silhouettes that read as the real animal and rounder, simpler versions with faces for children’s projects.

Can I get an animal that is not here?

New sets are added regularly. To turn a photo of your own pet into a line drawing or an engraving, use the Plotcaster editor.
