One letter, two letters or three
A single-letter monogram is the simplest: the ring and the wreath designs here are finished pieces, ready to cut. The ring version is one welded piece, because the tips of the letter run into the ring; the wreath version is two pieces, the wreath and the letter.
For a traditional three-letter monogram, open a letter’s page and download the plain letter in one typeface for all three initials. Set the surname initial in the middle about a third taller than the other two, close the gaps until the letters touch, and weld. Abril Fatface and Cinzel Decorative suit a formal monogram; Pacifico and Lobster a casual one.
Sizes for common monogram projects
A tumbler takes a monogram 60 to 80 mm across; a car window decal 100 to 130 mm; a tote bag 150 to 200 mm; a bath towel, embroidered or in heat-transfer vinyl, about 100 mm. Each design’s page gives its narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can check the serifs will survive at the size you choose.
