The first day photo board

A first day board is usually a 300 by 400 mm chalkboard. The first day of school sign set has the lettering for one: the heading over rules for the grade, the name, the age, the teacher and something the child loves, cut 280 mm wide. Two more designs carry the grade names from preschool to 12th, to swap each year, and one has both a first day and a last day heading for the same board.

Cut the lettering from white permanent vinyl and write the answers in chalk pen, which wipes off for next year. If the board is real slate, warm it with a hair dryer first so the vinyl grips.

Naming everything that goes in the bag

The pencil and crayon sets each have a fat version and a split version made to hold a name. On a pencil case, cut the fat pencil 150 mm long with the name in a heavy rounded typeface. On a lunch box or a water bottle, 60 to 70 mm in permanent vinyl, and wash by hand.

The ruler set includes a 10 cm ruler and a twelve inch ruler that are true to size when cut at the size given on their pages. Lay the cut piece beside a ruler you trust before relying on it: a file can change size on its way into cutting software.

The hundredth day and the last day

100 Days of School goes on a child’s shirt at 170 mm wide, leaving room below for a hundred of something stuck or drawn on. Goodbye School Hello Pool is the last day shirt, at the same width.

How is this different from the teacher page?

This page is for pupils and parents: first days, grades, bags and labels. The teacher page gathers the gifts and classroom pieces.

Do the photo boards show a year?

The photo boards carry no year, so they can be used again. For a date, the calendar set has numerals from 1 to 31 and the month names. Leavers’ designs with a class year are on the graduation page.
