What a job set contains

Each set is drawn for one job by looking at what its people actually use. The lineman set has a lineman climbing a pole, a bucket truck and a pair of climbing hooks. The welder has a helmet, a torch with sparks and a bead of ripples. The ironworker sits on a beam with a spud wrench. The coal miner has a helmet with a cap lamp and a dinner pail. The librarian has a date stamp with its print and a book cart.

Most sets follow the same plan: a figure, a plain silhouette on a flat base, the tools, an emblem, a heart, an outline and a layered version in colour.

A frame for the name

Nearly every set has a design left blank for a name or initials, shaped by the job. The ironworker has a beam on a hook. The semi truck has a blank trailer. The photographer has a viewfinder, the librarian a bookplate, the dog groomer a bone and the dispatcher a call sign bubble. On a tumbler or a mug these go 80 mm wide, with the name in a heavy typeface.

Hard hats, toolboxes and truck windows

Working gear is rough on vinyl. Use permanent outdoor vinyl, clean the surface with alcohol and press hard into any texture. A hard hat decal is about 50 mm; ask before sticking anything to a safety helmet, because some sites and some makers do not allow it. A toolbox lid takes 100 mm and a truck window 150 to 200 mm in white.

Questions

Are official badges or union emblems included?

No. The police badges are blank shields and stars with no department name, the firefighter’s Maltese cross is blank, and no union or company mark is drawn.

My job is not here. What can I use?

The tools, wrench and construction sets cover many trades. New job sets are drawn from what people type into the search box on the library page.

Where are teachers and estate agents?

On pages of their own: the teacher page and the real estate page.

Which of these are healthcare jobs?

About a dozen. The healthcare page shows more from each of them, with stethoscopes and heartbeat lines.
