Free 3D Christmas SVG files

Christmas cut files with depth, of two kinds. The first are patterns that fold or slot into an object: snowflakes in pieces that slot together, stars creased into relief, boxes for ornaments, cards and gift holders. The second are layered scenes: several sheets of card, each cut with part of a picture, stacked in a deep frame.

Layered Christmas scenes

Each scene is five or six sheets cut from card and stacked with a gap between them. They come as one file for each sheet, checked so that each sheet cuts as one piece, and every part can be moved, swapped or resized in the scene maker first.

Two kinds of 3D

A pattern that folds is cut once from one sheet and becomes an object: fold lines are cut as rows of slits, tabs are glued, slots take the thickness of the card. Each of those pages says what the pattern makes and how large it comes out.

A layered scene stays flat, sheet by sheet, and gets its depth from the gaps between the sheets. Foam tape or strips of foam board on the border of each sheet hold them apart. Lit from behind, the back sheets glow.

Card for Christmas makes

Card of 200 to 250 gsm for boxes, stars and cards, which have to stand. Card of 160 to 220 gsm for the sheets of a layered scene. White card throughout for a scene that will be lit from behind; colours, darkest at the front, for one that will not.

Questions

Do the layered scenes need a special frame?

A deep one, usually sold as a shadow box frame. Allow 3 mm for each gap between sheets and 5 mm over: six sheets need about 20 mm inside. The shadow box guide goes through the making.

Can I add lights?

Yes. A warm white LED strip round the inside of the frame, behind the back sheet, is the usual way. The light box guide covers the lights, the power and how to keep the glow even.

Are there flat Christmas files too?

Yes. The Christmas page gathers the flat sets: trees, ornaments, reindeer, snowflakes and greetings.
