Building a landscape from separate files

All the files arrive at one size, 100 mm along the longer side, so a scene is made by scaling. Put a mountain range at the back at full width, a pine treeline in front at two thirds of that, and a single deer or bear at a quarter. Cut each from a different shade of card and stack them with foam pads for a layered picture, or weld them into one silhouette for vinyl.

Several sets have a ready-made scene in a ring: a mountain in a circle, pine trees in a circle, a wave in a circle. Those are single pieces, made for round signs and coasters of 90 to 100 mm.

What is delicate and what is not

Leaves and ferns are the fine work. The fern frond has fifteen pairs of leaflets and the tree with leaves on every branch is made of many small ones. Cut those at 120 mm or more in vinyl, or choose the oak leaf, the round tree silhouette or the simple pine tree, bold shapes that can go far smaller.

For wood on a laser, look at the narrowest part given on each design’s page. Blades of grass and drifting dandelion seeds are the first things to scorch away at small sizes; mountains, suns and clouds are not.

Questions

Are the leaves and trees real species?

Many are. The leaf set has oak, maple, ginkgo, monstera, ivy, palm and banana leaves, and the tree set an oak, a weeping willow and an apple tree, each named on its page.

Which designs work for engraving on a wooden slice?

The scenes in a ring and the solid silhouettes. Engraved as a filled shape, a mountain range or a treeline reads clearly even across rough grain.

Is there a page for flowers alone?
