How the cards are made

Each card is one sheet: a back, a front, and a fold between them cut as a row of slits so the card creases in the right place without scoring. The design is cut out of the front, so the colour of a liner or of the card behind shows through it. Most sets include a liner as a second piece, a small card for a gift, and a version to print and cut by hand.

The pop up cards work by slits and folds parallel to the spine: open the card to a right angle and a step, a cake or a row of buildings stands up from the fold. Each one is designed to close flat.

Sizes and card

The cards are drawn to common sizes, A6, A2 (4.25 by 5.5 inches), 5 by 7 inches and square, and each page says which and gives the cut size of the open sheet. Use card of 200 to 300 gsm for the base and paper of about 120 gsm for a liner. The envelope set has templates to match.

Questions

Can I add a name or a message?

Yes. Add text in your cutting software and cut it from the front, or draw it with a pen in the machine. Keep cut letters at least 12 mm tall, and choose a stencil typeface so the middles of letters stay attached.

Will the fold hold if it is cut as slits?

Yes. The slits are short and the card between them carries the fold. On card over 300 gsm, crease the fold once each way before closing it.
