Cards for one person and cards for a class

Most of these are folded cards for one person: a base cut from one sheet, with its spine cut as a row of slits so that it folds without scoring, and hearts cut out of the front. Glue red or pink paper inside the front, about 5 mm smaller than the panel all round, and the hearts show in that colour.

Two are made for a classroom set. The crayon holder is a flat heart with two straps cut into it; cut it 120 mm wide, slide a crayon under the straps and it stays put. A sheet of 12 inch card takes four. The colouring cards are drawn as lines, four to a sheet, to print rather than cut: print them on white card and let the children colour them before you cut them apart.

Sizes and card

The files are 100 mm on their longer side and are scaled up to the size each note gives. The A6 cards are cut 210 mm long from half a sheet of A4, the A2 cards 8.5 inches long from half a sheet of Letter, and the square cards 280 mm long, which fits A4; cut those at 270 mm on Letter. Card of 200 to 270 gsm is right for a folded card, and 250 gsm or more for the crayon holder, so the straps grip.

How to open the files

• Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
• Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
• LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
• Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
• Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.
