Free envelope SVG files

Free envelope SVG files: a closed envelope, a bold mail icon, an open envelope with a letter, one full of flowers, a love letter sealed with a heart, an envelope for Santa, and two flat templates to cut from paper and fold into real envelopes.

12 designs. Free for personal and commercial use, no sign-up. What you can do with them.

Pictures of envelopes

Most of these are pictures of an envelope, for cards, stickers, planners and signs. On the solid ones the flap and seams are cut as lines about 2 mm wide that stop short of the edges, so the envelope stays in one piece and the lines show in the colour underneath. They weed easily from about 50 mm wide. The simple envelope icon has no fine lines at all and can go down to 20 mm.

The front views carry a stamp, a postmark and address lines but no lettering, so you can add a real name and address in your own font.

Templates that fold into envelopes

Two designs are flat patterns. The envelope template folds into a small envelope whose finished front is the plain rectangle in the middle: scale the file until that rectangle is a little larger than your card. The cash envelope template makes a tall envelope for banknotes or seed packets. Cut either from paper of 100 to 160 gsm, crease along the straight edges of the middle panel with a scoring tool and glue only the tabs.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

How do I size the envelope template for my card?

The finished envelope is the size of the plain rectangle in the middle of the template, which is about 55 mm wide when the whole file is 100 mm wide. Divide the width you need by 55 and scale the file by that. Allow 3 to 4 mm more than the card each way.

Where are the fold lines on the templates?

They are not drawn, so nothing cuts through the paper by mistake. Fold along the four straight edges of the middle panel, from one inside corner to the next. On the cash envelope, fold where the two tall panels meet and where the flap and tabs join them.

Can I add an address to the envelope front?

Yes. The three address lines are cut-outs. Delete them in your cutting software if you prefer and put your own lettering in the same place, or leave them and write on the backing with a pen.
