Free map SVG files: the world, continents, countries and the United States

Every map in the library: the world, the continents, countries from Canada to New Zealand, and the United States with its state lines. Each place is shown here as a solid shape and as an outline, and has its own page with more: the shape cut out of a heart, a disc and a tile, with its name beneath, and in stripes.

108 designs in 53 sets. Free for personal and commercial use, no sign-up. What you can do with them.

How the maps are drawn

Each place is drawn on a projection of its own, centred on itself, so that it has the proportions of a map of that place alone. A country cut out of a world map is stretched by wherever it happens to sit: far from the equator, most web maps make everything too wide and too large. The world map uses the Equal Earth projection, which keeps the continents at their true relative sizes.

The coasts and borders come from Natural Earth and, for the United States, the Census Bureau, both public domain. They are simplified only as far as cutting needs: small islands are left out and inlets too narrow for a blade are closed. Islands that are large enough stay, as loose pieces placed where they belong.

What people make with them

A wall map to mark with the places a family has been; a country cut from a heart for someone living far from it; a pair of outlines, where two people are from, on a wedding sign; a suitcase tag; a classroom display with a colour for each continent. For a heart over one town, download the solid shape and add a small heart in your cutting software.

Questions

Is my country here?

The list is the places people search for most as cut files. If yours is missing, the search box on the library page records what people look for, and that is what gets drawn next.

Where are the US states?

On their own page: state outlines, with 48 states each drawn on its own projection.

Are the places to scale with each other?

No. Each is 100 mm on its longer side. To show places together at true scale, use the world map or a continent.
