Menus, stalls and café windows

A picture beside a word does half the work of a menu. On a chalkboard, the plain versions at 60 mm in white vinyl: a pizza slice, a taco, a burger, a coffee mug. The hamburger with a blank flag has a small empty flag on a pick through the bun, for a table number or a name.

For a window, cut the design in mirror image and apply it to the inside of the glass, where weather and window cleaners cannot reach it. White and pale yellow show best against a dark interior. At 300 mm, the whole pepperoni pizza and the stack of three donuts read from across the street.

Food in its real colours

Most sets end with a layered version. The layered hamburger is the fullest: eight layers in seven colours, built up from a dark backing through bun, patty, cheese, tomato and lettuce to the seeds. The hamburger layers pulled apart are six loose pieces, the way a menu board shows what is inside.

In card, glue layers flat for a menu or a card front. In heat-transfer vinyl, tack each layer down briefly and save the full press for the top one.

Names on lunch boxes and aprons

The cupcake, the cookie and the carrot each have a split version with a gap for a name. A lunch box lid has room for one at about 60 mm. On a child’s apron, 120 mm in heat-transfer vinyl, mirrored. The chef set adds a hat, a whisk and a rolling pin for a grown-up’s apron.
