Free box SVG files: templates that fold into real boxes

Flat patterns that cut from one or two sheets of card and fold into a box: pillow boxes, boxes with lids, explosion boxes, favour and treat boxes, popcorn boxes, milk cartons, gable boxes and gift card holders. Every fold line is in the file as a row of slits, so there is nothing to score.

Fold lines without a scoring tool

A box template usually comes as cut lines and score lines, and the score lines have to be set to a different tool or attached by hand, which is where most first boxes go wrong. In these files each fold is a row of short slits cut by the same blade as the outline. Load the file, cut, and the card folds along the slits. The slits stop short of the edges, so each piece lifts off the mat whole.

Every template also has a version to print and cut by hand, with the cut edge as a solid line and the folds as dashes.

Card and size

Card of 200 to 250 gsm suits most of these boxes: stiff enough to stand, thin enough to fold cleanly. The files are 100 mm on their longer side, like the rest of the library, so scale each to the cut size its page gives. Each page states the finished size of the box at that cut size and whether the sheet fits A4 or Letter card or needs a 12 inch mat.

Questions

Do I need to change any line to score?

No. The folds are slits that the blade cuts with everything else. If you prefer to score, use the print and cut version of a box and score its dashed lines by hand.

Which glue should I use?

Double-sided tape or a thin line of tacky glue on the tabs. Wet glue in a thick line warps the card.
