Free gift box SVG files

Free gift box SVG files: a lidded gift box with a bow, a square present tied with ribbon, Christmas gifts with holly and snowflakes, stacks and rows of presents, an open box with stars, and two flat templates that fold into real boxes.

13 designs. Free for personal and commercial use, no sign-up. What you can do with them.

How the ribbon is drawn

On a one-colour gift, ribbon and paper are the same sheet, so the ribbon is shown by a cut line along each of its edges. The lines are about 2 mm wide and stop short of the edges of the box, and where two ribbons cross they stop at the crossing. That leaves the ribbon joined to the paper all the way round, and the present lifts as one piece.

For a ribbon in a second colour, cut the design twice. From the second sheet keep only the bow and the strips between the cut lines, and lay them over the first. The loops of the bow are open, so the colour behind shows through them.

Templates that fold into boxes

Two designs are flat patterns. The gift box template makes a cube with a tuck-in top: each face is about 22.5 mm when the file is at its own size of 100 mm tall, so scale it up until a face is as big as you need. The gift box with a lid template makes a shallow square box and a lid a touch larger that slides over it. Cut both from card of 200 to 300 gsm, score along the edges of the square faces, and glue the tabs on the inside.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

How big a box does the gift box template make?

A cube whose sides are a little under a quarter of the height of the file. Cut the template 300 mm tall, which fits a 305 mm mat, and you get a box about 68 mm each way: right for a small candle or a few chocolates.

Why is the lid on the lid template bigger than the base?

So that it slides over. The square of the lid is about 5 per cent wider than the square of the base, which leaves room for the thickness of two layers of card. If your card is thick, scale the lid up a little more.

Can I cut the bow in a different colour?

Yes. Cut the whole design from each colour. Use the box from one, and from the other keep the bow and the ribbon strips, trimming them where they meet the box. Stick them on top and the join is hidden by the cut lines.
