Free egg SVG files

Free egg SVG files for the kitchen: fried eggs, eggs with bacon and on toast, a boiled egg in its cup, an egg being cracked, a devilled egg, whole eggs and a carton. The yolk of each fried egg is held in place by small bridges. Download as SVG, PNG or DXF.

How the yolk stays in

In one colour, the only way to show a yolk on a white is to cut a line round it. A full circle would free the yolk as a loose disc, so in these files the line is about 2.7 mm wide on the plain fried egg and is broken by three bridges, each about 5 mm across. Leave the bridges alone when you weed and the yolk stays exactly where it belongs. The curved glint inside the yolk is a separate sliver that lifts out with a pin.

A fried egg has no thin parts, so it cuts well in vinyl, card, felt and wood down to about 30 mm across. The designs with bacon are the ones to watch: the two fat lines along each rasher are about 2 mm wide when the design is 100 mm across, and they close up on a laser below about 60 mm.

White on white

An egg white cut from white vinyl disappears on a white wall or mug. Cut the egg in black or a dark colour for a graphic look, or put it on something coloured: a blue apron, a kraft paper tag, a wooden board. For the monogram egg, back the open yolk with yellow card. The layered egg solves the problem by sitting the white in a dark frying pan.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

How do I make the yolk yellow?

Cut the fried egg twice, once in white and once in yellow. Snip the three bridges on both, keep the white from the first and the yolk disc from the second, and fit the yolk into the hole. Or use the layered egg, which has the yolk as its own layer.

Is there a plain egg shape with nothing cut from it?

The whole chicken egg here has a glint and a few freckles. For a completely plain egg, use the plain shape in the Easter egg set, which has nothing cut from it.

Which egg works on a tea towel or an apron?

The fried egg and bacon, or the egg on toast, at about 120 mm wide in heat transfer vinyl. Both are one piece with wide cut lines. Choose a dark vinyl on a pale cloth so that the white of the egg shows.
