Why every badge is blank and generic

A real police badge belongs to its force, and in many places it is an offence to copy one closely. These are badge shapes of our own drawing, with no seal, no city and no wording, so they are safe to use for gifts, party props, costumes for children, retirement boards and thank you cards. Do not use any of them to pass as an officer.

The blank parts are the point. On the main badge the round middle is about 24 mm across when the badge is 100 mm tall, and the curved panels above and below it are about 10 mm deep, which takes a short word set on a curve. The thin cut lines that mark them are roughly 1.8 mm wide and have small bridges, so the badge lifts as one piece.

Cutting and colour

In vinyl, gold or silver on navy or black reads as a badge at once. Weed the thin border lines slowly, starting from a bridge. For engraving on wood or acrylic, use the badge outline, or run the cut lines of a solid badge as score lines. The star badges and the sunburst have sharp points, which lift first on fabric, so press them well or pick the oval for anything that will be washed often.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

Can I add a name or a number to a blank police badge?

Yes. Put a number in the round middle and a name or a rank in the curved panels, using the curve or arc tool in your cutting software. Cut the lettering from a second colour and lay it on top, or weld it and cut it out of the badge so the backing shows through.

Is any of these the badge of a real police force?

No. Each shape was drawn for this set and carries no seal, motto or place name. They borrow only the general look that badges share: a crest, a shield, a star or an oval. That keeps them clear of the rules that protect official insignia.

Which police badge is best for a small sticker?

The star in a ring or the plain badge for security staff. Both have bold cut-outs and few thin lines, so they stay clear at 35 to 40 mm. The main badge with its border and panels needs about 60 mm or more for the lines to weed cleanly.
