Free rad tech SVG files

Free rad tech SVG files with no lettering to work around: a rad tech holding up an x-ray, a silhouette by the table, x-ray films of a hand and a chest, a rib cage, the x-ray table and tube stand, a C-arm, a lead apron, a heart, a light box, a heartbeat line and two frames for a name.

Cutting bones: sizes and materials

An x-ray is light bones on a dark sheet, so the films here are solid shapes with the bones cut out. On the x-ray of a hand at 100 mm tall the finger bones are 3 to 4 mm wide and the gaps at the joints are about 2 mm of film, which is enough for vinyl and card. Go no smaller than 80 mm, and weed the bones out one finger at a time from the tip towards the wrist.

The rib cage is the other way round: the ribs are the material, about 4 mm wide at 100 mm tall, and they hang from the breastbone and the spine. It cuts well in wood and acrylic from 120 mm. For small stickers and badge reels, the heart with a rib cage and the lead apron are the sturdy choices.

No trefoil, no cross

The radiation trefoil is a warning sign and the red cross is a protected emblem, so neither is used. The lead apron carries a small heart, and bones do the rest. Position markers are left off the films because they are letters: add your own initial marker, a name or a department in your cutting software, in the open film frame or the monogram ring.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

Is the hand x-ray anatomically complete?

It is simplified but honest: each finger has its three bones and the bone of the palm behind it, the thumb has two and its palm bone, and the wrist is drawn as seven small bones in two rows where a real wrist has eight, some of them overlapping. It is a drawing for a shirt, not a teaching plate.

Which way round should I press the film designs on a dark shirt?

On a dark shirt, cut the film from white or silver and the bones will show as the shirt colour, which reverses the look. To keep white bones, use the rib cage design, which is the bones themselves, or cut the film from a mid grey and lay it on white.

Can I add a left or right marker to the films?

Yes. The films have clear margins about 4 mm wide at 100 mm tall and a larger clear patch in the corners. Set a small bold initial in your cutting software and subtract it from a top corner, as a real marker would appear.
