Sizes and fine lines
The mortar and pestle, the pills, the pill bottle, the heart and the badge are bold shapes with cut lines about 2 mm wide at 100 mm, and they cut cleanly in vinyl and iron-on from about 50 mm. The pill bottle has six short ribs on its cap and three rules on its label: weed those with the point of the hook before lifting the rest.
The dispensary shelves hold eleven small jars, flasks and boxes, each two to four times as tall as a shelf is thick, and want 120 mm or more. The pharmacist with a pill bottle and the pair with a pharmacy tech have lines about 1.6 mm wide for the lapels and pockets, so keep them to 90 mm tall or more.
Why there is no cross and no symbol of letters
The usual marks of a pharmacy are a cross, a cup with a serpent or a pair of letters. Crosses and the cup are protected or reserved in several countries, and these designs carry no letters, so none is used. The mortar and pestle is free to all and older than any of them. Add a name, a shop or the letters after a name yourself: the blank label frame and the monogram ring are open for that.
How to open the files
- Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
- Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
- LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
- Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
- Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.
Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.
Questions
Can I add the letters people expect on a pharmacy design?
Yes, in your own cutting software. Set the letters in a bold face and place them on the label of the pill bottle, over the rules of the prescription pad or inside the blank label frame. The pad and the label are only lightly ruled, so lettering laid over them in a second colour reads clearly.
Which design suits a pharmacy tech?
The pharmacist and pharmacy tech side by side shows a tech in scrubs with a tray of vials. The counting tray with a spatula, the pill bottle and the pills are the tools a tech uses all day, and they carry nothing that says pharmacist or tech, so they suit either.
Will the seam of the capsule cut it in two?
No. The seam is a short cut line that stops well short of each edge, so the two halves stay joined. To make the capsule in two colours, cut it twice and trim each along the seam with scissors or in your software.
