Free book SVG files

Free book SVG files: open books, closed books, stacks, a shelf of spines, a bookworm and a book with a heart. Text lines, bands and labels are slots that stop short of the edge, so each book lifts off the mat in one piece.

Open books, closed books and stacks

The open book is the one most people want: it stands for reading, school, stories and faith all at once. Its text lines are slots about 2.2 mm wide at the 100 mm size of the file, so in vinyl it wants to be 70 mm or wider to weed without tearing. The outline version has blank pages and is the better choice for adding names.

The stacks and the shelf are built from books seen from the side, each with spine bands or a slot of pages cut in. These have many small parts to weed. They cut well in card and vinyl at 100 mm and engrave well in wood at any size, but for a sticker under 50 mm pick the closed book or the book with a heart.

Room for a name

The closed book has a clear label on its cover, sized for a short name or an initial. The open book outline has two blank pages, which suit a pair of names and a date for a wedding, or a child’s name and a class for a reading prize.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

How do I write on the pages of the open book?

Use the open book outline. In your cutting software, type the words, squeeze them to fit one page and lean them a little to follow the slope of the page. Set the words to draw or engrave and the book to cut.

Can I make a book stack in several colours?

Yes. Cut the stack once in each colour you want and keep a different book from each sheet. The books meet along straight edges, so they line up again easily when you lay them on a backing.

Which book works for a bookmark or bookplate?

The tall book stack is narrow enough to sit at the top of a bookmark at 40 mm wide. For a bookplate, print the PNG of the open book outline at the top of a label and write the owner’s name across the pages.
