Free softball SVG files

Free softball SVG files: balls with bold stitches, a horseshoe seam, the stitches on their own, a heart-shaped softball, bats, a glove with a ball, a bow and a diamond. On every solid ball the seams stop short of the edge, so it lifts off the mat in one piece.

Bold stitches for a bigger ball

A softball is larger than a baseball and its seams usually stand proud of the cover. These files show that with fewer, heavier stitches: six to a seam, each cut about 3 mm wide at the 100 mm size of the file. The seams stop about 3.8 mm inside the edge, so the ball lifts off the mat in one piece, and the strips between stitches are about 2.5 mm wide, which holds up in vinyl down to a ball about 50 mm across.

Most softballs are bright yellow with red stitching. Cut the solid ball from yellow and back it with red so the stitches show through, or cut a plain yellow circle and lay the loose stitches on top. The horseshoe view, with the seam bending round in a U, is the one players know from gripping the ball.

Bats, glove and diamond

The crossed bats are slimmer than the baseball bats in this library, as softball bats are. The glove holds a ball that is joined to the pocket all the way round, so nothing drops out. The diamond is drawn skinned, with no grass, and carries the pitcher’s circle that fastpitch fields are marked with.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

How do I make a yellow softball with red stitches?

The quick way is to cut the softball with stitches from yellow and stick it over red card or vinyl, so the red shows through the cut-outs. For stitches that sit on top, cut a plain yellow circle and the softball stitches on their own in red, size the stitches to 90% of the circle’s width and centre them by eye.

How are the softball files different from the baseball ones?

The softballs have six heavy stitches on each seam where the baseballs have nine finer ones, and the ball is usually shown tipped or end on. The softball set also has its own slim bats, a glove holding a ball, a bow and a skinned diamond with a pitcher’s circle.

Which softball suits a hair bow or a keyring?

The softball with a horseshoe seam. Its thinnest strip is about 4 mm at the 100 mm size, so it still cuts cleanly from faux leather or glitter vinyl at 40 mm across.
