Free basketball SVG files

Free basketball SVG files: balls with their seams, a heart-shaped ball, a split ball for a name, hoops, nets, a backboard, a goal on a pole, a court and a jersey. The seams stop short of the edge, so every ball lifts off the mat in one piece.

Seams that keep the ball in one piece

A basketball has eight panels divided by black seams. In these files the seams are slots about 3.2 mm wide that stop 3.6 mm short of the edge at the 100 mm size, so a rim runs all the way round and holds the eight panels together. Cut the ball from orange vinyl or card and put it on black, and the seams show dark, as on a real ball. For the reverse, cut the basketball lines on their own in black and lay them over a plain orange circle of the same size.

The rim is the part to watch when you scale down. At 50 mm across it is under 2 mm wide, which is fine for vinyl and iron-on but too fine for wood or acrylic. For a laser, keep the balls at 80 mm or more.

Hoops, courts and jerseys

The hoops are drawn from the front, with the rim on a bracket and a diamond net below; the goal on a pole is seen from the side. The court is a full court with both keys and both three-point arcs, in lines 1.8 mm wide at 100 mm long: engrave or score it at that size, or cut it at 250 mm or more for a wall sign. The jersey has a blank chest, so a number in your own team colours goes straight on.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

How do I make an orange basketball with black lines?

Cut the basketball with seams from orange and stick it on a black backing, so the black shows through the slots. Or cut a plain 100 mm circle in orange and the basketball lines on their own in black at the same size, and lay the lines on top.

How do I add a name to the split basketball?

Type the name in your cutting software and set it in the band between the two halves, which is 20 mm tall when the ball is 100 mm across. Keep the halves and the name on one piece of transfer tape so the spacing holds.

Will the net hold together when I cut it?

Yes. Every cord is joined to the rim at the top and to its neighbours where the diamonds cross, so the net lifts as one piece. On the net and rim design the cords are about 3.6 mm wide at 100 mm tall. On the hoop with backboard they are about 2.2 mm, so cut that one at full size or larger.
