Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.9 in (25 × 23 mm) | 0.51 mm | 133 mm | 110 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 2 × 1.81 in (51 × 46 mm) | 1 mm | 266 mm | 30 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 2.71 in (76 × 69 mm) | 1.5 mm | 399 mm | 12 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 4 × 3.62 in (102 × 92 mm) | 2 mm | 531 mm | 6 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 6 × 5.42 in (152 × 138 mm) | 3 mm | 797 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 7.23 in (203 × 184 mm) | 4.1 mm | 1,063 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 10.85 in (305 × 276 mm) | 6.1 mm | 1,594 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
