Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.72 × 1 in (18 × 25 mm) | 1.1 mm | 265 mm | 130 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 1.44 × 2 in (37 × 51 mm) | 2.2 mm | 529 mm | 35 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 2.16 × 3 in (55 × 76 mm) | 3.4 mm | 794 mm | 15 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 2.88 × 4 in (73 × 102 mm) | 4.5 mm | 1,059 mm | 6 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 4.33 × 6 in (110 × 152 mm) | 6.7 mm | 1,588 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 5.77 × 8 in (147 × 203 mm) | 8.9 mm | 2,117 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8.65 × 12 in (220 × 305 mm) | 13 mm | 3,176 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
