Free Great Dane SVG files

Free Great Dane SVG files: a standing silhouette on a flat base, a sitting Great Dane, a face with natural ears and one with cropped ears, a head in side view, a puppy, a mum and pup, a peeking Dane, and versions with a heart, a bone, a paw print and a ring for an initial. All drawn by code as clean closed shapes.

Sizes, materials and the long legs

Every file is 100 mm on its longer side. What tells you a Great Dane in outline is height: the legs are longer than the chest is deep, the belly tucks up sharply behind the ribs, and the neck carries a long, square-muzzled head well above the back. Those long legs are slim, about 6 mm across above the foot at full size, and the tail tapers to a fine tip beside the hock. In 3 mm plywood or acrylic cut the standing silhouette at 120 mm or wider. In vinyl and card it is safe from about 50 mm.

The sitting Great Dane is the sturdier side view: one front leg shows, and the tail lies on the ground. The faces carry the eyes, brows, the lines of the nose bridge, the nose and the hanging lips as slits about 2.5 mm wide at full size, so cut a face at 80 mm or taller and lift the slivers with a pin.

Natural ears and cropped ears

Most of the set has natural ears, folded forwards and hanging beside the cheek, which is how most pet Great Danes look. One design, the face with cropped ears, has the tall upright ears of the show ring, and it is twice as tall as it is wide, so it suits tall spaces such as a tumbler or the leg of a pair of jeans. The standing silhouette is cut level under the feet for a shadow box, and the paw print badge is five loose pieces that need transfer tape.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

Which colours suit a Great Dane?

The layered design is a fawn Dane: a fawn head and neck, black ears and mask, amber eyes, a charcoal nose and lips and a red collar. For a black or a blue Dane, cut any single-colour design from black or slate grey vinyl. For a harlequin, cut the standing silhouette from white and add torn-edged black patches by hand.

Is there a standing Great Dane with cropped ears?

No. The side views all have the natural folded ear. Only the face with cropped ears has upright ears.

Will the mum and pup cut as one piece?

Yes. The pup sits in front of its mother with its tail lying against her front paw, so the two are welded into a single shape. The pup is half her size, which makes its legs fine: cut the pair at 120 mm wide or more in wood, and at 70 mm or more in vinyl.
