Free bat SVG files

Free bat SVG files: silhouettes with scalloped wings in several poses, flocks and rows, wings on their own and outlines. Every bat is drawn by code, exactly symmetrical, and downloads as SVG, PNG or DXF.

Sizes, materials and the delicate parts of a bat

Every bat here is 100 mm on its longer side, which for a spread bat is the wingspan. The ears, the thumb claws and the finger ends along each wing all finish in points. Points do not weaken a cut piece, but in vinyl they are the first parts to lift, so weed from the body outwards and press the tips down last.

The solid parts are wide. On the classic bat nothing is narrower than 6 mm at full size, so it still holds together at a 30 mm wingspan. The bat with wing bones and the pair of wings have slits about 2 mm wide and need to be cut larger. For 3 mm plywood or acrylic, the simple chunky bat has no claws to snap off.

Matt black vinyl suits windows and mirrors, where a bat reads as a shadow. For walls, black card of 200 gsm or heavier holds a fold, which is what you need for bats that stand off the surface.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

How do I make bats that stand out from the wall?

Cut the bats from black card, crease each wing where it meets the body and fold both wings forward. Fix only the body to the wall with a foam pad or removable putty. Mix sizes from about 60 mm to 200 mm wingspan and angle them all the same way, as if they were leaving one corner of the room.

Which bat should I use at very small sizes?

The simple chunky bat. It has two scallops on each wing, short ears and no claws, so there is nothing fine to lose at confetti or nail-decal size. For jewellery, the pair of bat earrings already has a hanging loop above each head.

Can I make a longer bat garland?

Yes. The row of three bats is welded where the wing tips overlap. Duplicate it in your cutting software, slide the copy along until its end wing overlaps the first row by a few millimetres, and weld again.
