Free frog SVG files

Free frog SVG files: tree frogs seen from above with a pad on every toe, sitting and leaping frogs in profile, a cute frog that faces you, a bullfrog, a frog on a lily pad and a mandala frog. Each is drawn by code and welded into one piece.

Toes, sizes and materials

A frog is a round body with a lot of thin toes, and the toes decide how small you can go. Every file is 100 mm on its longer side, and each design page gives its narrowest part at that size. On the tree frog the toes are about 2.3 mm wide with a round pad at the tip. Vinyl and card cope with that down to about 60 mm across. For 3 mm plywood, acrylic or felt, pick the small simple frog: it has three thick toes on each foot, each about 4 mm wide.

When you weed a frog cut from vinyl, start at the body and pull towards the toes, then press each pad down with a fingernail before you lift the transfer tape. The pads are the first thing to curl on a water bottle or a car window, so burnish them well.

Three views of a frog

The frogs seen from above are mirror images left to right, which makes them sit well in the middle of a lid, a tile or a coaster. The frogs in profile sit flat on their feet and suit the bottom edge of a sign or a card. The cute frog and the frog prince face you and are drawn for children: cut them in bright green and put white or yellow behind the eyes.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

What is the difference between the tree frog and the other frogs from above?

The tree frog has a round pad on the end of every toe, which is how tree frogs grip leaves and glass. The small simple frog has plain thick toes and a plumper body, the mandala frog has a flower cut through its back, and the tribal frog has straight limbs and pointed toes.

How do I colour the poison dart frog?

Its blotches are holes. Cut the frog from black vinyl or card and put one bright colour behind it: blue, yellow, orange and red are all true to life. On a light surface, do it the other way round and cut the frog itself in the bright colour.

Can I use the frog feet as footprints?

Yes. The pair of frog feet is two loose pieces, a left and a right. Cut several pairs, turn each pair a little and set them about one and a half foot lengths apart, so they read as hops across a wall, a path of paper or a classroom floor.
