Free swan SVG files

Free swan SVG files: a swan gliding with raised wings, a plain silhouette, two swans making a heart, a sleeping swan, a swan in flight, a mother with cygnets, a crowned swan and a monogram frame. The neck is one smooth ribbon, so its curve cuts cleanly.

The neck is the part to plan for

A swan is a heavy body under a long thin neck, and the neck decides how small you can cut it. Every file is 100 mm on its longer side. On the swan with raised wings the neck narrows to about 7.5 mm just below the head, and the narrowest part of all is 2.4 mm, beside the dark patch between the eye and the bill. Vinyl holds that at any size and card holds it down to about 50 mm tall. In 3 mm plywood keep a single swan at 90 mm or taller. The bill ends in a blunt tip: peel towards it, not away from it.

The feather lines on the wing are slits about 2 mm wide at their middle. They weed quickly, but if you are cutting felt or foam, use the swan silhouette, which has no inside cuts at all.

White birds on white card

Swans are white, and a white cut on a white card vanishes. Put the swan on a dark or coloured ground: navy, sage and dusty pink are the wedding favourites. Or cut it from black as a silhouette, which is how swans are most often seen against bright water. The layered white swan comes with its own round patch of lake, an orange bill and the black knob and face patch of a mute swan.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

Do the two swans making a heart cut as one piece?

Yes. The two birds are welded where their bills meet and again where their chests meet, so the pair lifts as a single shape and the heart is the open space between the necks. It is mirrored exactly, so it also folds in half cleanly for a card.

Which swan works for a wedding invitation?

The two swans making a heart is the usual choice, cut at 40 to 60 mm wide in pearl card or foil. The swan outline is the lightest and suits foil quills and engraving. For place cards, the swan silhouette holds at 25 mm.

How do I add a letter to the swan monogram frame?

The body is an open ring about 48 mm across inside when the design is 100 mm tall. Type an initial, scale it until it overlaps the ring at the top and bottom, and weld the two so they cut together.
