Free spider SVG files

Free spider SVG files: a spider from above, a black widow with its hourglass, a tarantula, a cute smiling spider, spiders hanging on threads and a layered spider on a web. The legs are smooth ribbons that thin to a point, drawn once and mirrored so both sides match.

11 designs. Free for personal and commercial use, no sign-up. What you can do with them.

Eight thin legs

A spider is nearly all legs, and legs are what break. On the spider from above each leg is close to 4 mm wide where it leaves the body and thins steadily to a point at the foot, so the weakest part is always the last few millimetres. In vinyl that is no trouble at any size. In card, cut at 80 mm or more and lift the spider from the mat body first. In 3 mm plywood, choose the tarantula, whose legs are about twice as thick.

Every leg has a hip, a knee and a foot, and the knees of the front legs sit well out from the body, which is what makes a spider look like a spider and not a crab. The legs are drawn for one side only and mirrored, so the spider is exactly symmetrical and sits centred on a card or a shirt without measuring.

Spiders for Halloween

For a window or a door, cut the hanging spider or the row of hanging spiders from black card or vinyl. The threads are part of the design, so nothing has to be tied on. The three loose spiders are for scattering over a table or a pumpkin. The spider web designs in this library are drawn to the same 100 mm size, so a web and a spider from the two sets fit together.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

Is the black widow hourglass a separate piece?

On the one-colour black widow it is a hole in the abdomen: weed it out and put red behind it. On the layered black widow it is a separate red piece that you stick on top of the black spider. A real black widow carries the mark on its underside, but it is shown on top here, as it usually is in drawings.

Which spider designs are not scary?

The cute spider with a smile, the spider with a heart-shaped body and the itsy bitsy spider with its water spout are drawn for children. They have rounder shapes, and the cute spider has eyes and a grin.

How do I hang the row of spiders?

The three spiders and their threads are welded to a straight bar, so the whole row is one piece. Cut it from black card and tape or pin the bar along the top of a door frame, a window or a shelf. At 100 mm wide the threads are about 2 mm, so for a doorway cut it at 300 mm or more.
