Free Santa tray SVG files

Free Santa tray SVG files: a “Dear Santa” tray with spots for the cookies, the milk and the carrots, six round plates to match, and a set of three small rings. Drawn by code, with the words set in two open-licensed typefaces.

8 designs. Free for personal and commercial use, no sign-up. What you can do with them.

Or choose one below for its PNG, DXF and cutting sizes.

Sizing it for a tray or a plate

Every file is 100 mm on its longer side, which is far smaller than a tray, so the first job is to scale it. Measure the flat base of the tray, not the rim, and make the design about 40 mm narrower than that. On a 400 mm tray the whole design is cut about 360 mm wide, which makes each ring roughly 100 mm across: room for three cookies, a tumbler and a few carrots.

The six round plates are drawn to match one another. Cut the cookie plate to fit inside the rim of your own plate: 180 mm suits a 250 mm dinner plate. The milk design at 100 mm makes a coaster.

Cutting and applying

These are decals, cut from one colour of vinyl. The letters, rings, stars and drawings are separate pieces, so weed the waste away and lift everything together with transfer tape, which keeps the spacing as drawn. White or gold shows well on a wooden or dark tray; red or green on a white one.

Keep vinyl away from the surface that food touches. On a clear glass plate, mirror the file and apply it to the underside. On a wooden tray that will carry bare cookies, seal over the vinyl with a food-safe finish, or put the cookies on a napkin. A tray made this way is for one night a year: wipe it clean, do not put it in a dishwasher.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

How small can the tray design be cut?

The smallest lettering is the three labels under the rings, whose capitals are about 5 mm tall when the design is 100 mm wide. At 300 mm wide they are about 15 mm tall, which any cutter manages in vinyl. Below about 250 mm wide, use the set of three rings or the single plates, whose words are larger.

Can I change “Dear Santa” to a family name?

Yes. Delete those words in your cutting software and type your own in their place. The script here is Pacifico, which is free to install, so the new words can match the rest.

What is the carrot spot for?

The reindeer. Children leave carrots beside Santa’s cookies and milk for the reindeer waiting on the roof, so a tray has three spots, not two.
