Free snowman SVG files

Free snowman SVG files: snowmen in top hats and bobble hats with scarves, stick arms and coal faces, plus a melting snowman, a family, and loose face, hat and arm pieces. Each whole snowman is one welded piece.

How a one-colour snowman works

A snowman is white, so in a single colour it has to be drawn the other way round: the body is the solid part and the eyes, nose, smile and buttons are holes. Cut it from white vinyl or card and put it on a dark surface, and the holes show as coal.

Those holes are small. At 100 mm tall the eyes are about 3.5 mm across and the coals of the smile about 2 mm, so cut the dressed snowmen at 100 mm or taller in vinyl, and weed the dots with a pin. For anything smaller use the snowman silhouette, which has no holes at all.

Faces for baubles, jars and wood slices

The two face designs are loose pieces: eyes, a carrot nose and a mouth, set out as they should sit. Cut them from black and orange vinyl, lift the whole face with one piece of transfer tape so the spacing stays right, and apply it to a white bauble, a painted jar or a wood slice. A face scaled to 60 mm wide suits an 80 mm bauble.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

How do I make the carrot nose orange?

On the dressed snowmen the nose is a hole, so put a scrap of orange vinyl or card behind it. On the face pieces the nose is its own piece: move it to an orange mat in your cutting software and cut the eyes and mouth from black.

Which snowman can I cut from wood?

The snowman silhouette and the simple two-ball snowman are the sturdiest. The stick arms on the others are 2 to 3 mm wide at 100 mm tall, which is fine in vinyl and card but fragile in thin plywood unless you cut at 150 mm or more.

Can I use the snowman as a stencil?

Yes. Use the snowman silhouette: cut it from stencil film, keep the sheet with the snowman-shaped hole, and sponge white paint through it. Add the face afterwards with a black pen or the face pieces.
