Free bridge SVG files

Free bridge SVG files: an arched footbridge, a stone bridge with three arches, a humpback silhouette, a covered bridge, a suspension bridge, a cable-stayed bridge, a truss bridge, a rope bridge, a moon bridge and a rainbow bridge with paw prints. None is a portrait of a real bridge.

Stone, timber and cable

The three kinds of bridge here cut very differently. The stone bridges are solid walls with arches taken out, so they are quick to cut, easy to weed and strong at 60 mm long. The footbridges have posts about 3 mm wide and rails a little over 2 mm when the file is 100 mm long, which suits card and vinyl at that size.

The cable bridges are the delicate ones. The hangers of the suspension bridge and the stays of the cable-stayed bridge are about 1.7 mm wide at 100 mm, long and unsupported. Cut those at 150 mm or more, use a fresh blade, and lift the waste from between the cables before you move the bridge.

Water at the foot

Almost every bridge stands in a strip of water with a rippled top and a flat underside. It is there for a reason: it ties the piers, banks and abutments together so the bridge is one piece, and it gives a straight edge to glue along the bottom of a card, a frame or a shadow box. The humpback silhouette and the stone bridge are the best choices for layered paper scenes.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

Is the rainbow bridge for pet memorials?

Yes. It shows a rainbow rising from two clouds over a small footbridge, with a paw print cut into each cloud. Cut it from one colour for an ornament or a frame, or cut the three bands from separate colours and lay them over a plain copy.

Are any of these real bridges?

No. The suspension bridge, the cable-stayed bridge and the truss bridge are drawn from how those kinds of bridge are built, not from any one crossing. That keeps them free to use for any town.

Which bridge works best in a shadow box?

The humpback bridge silhouette. It is one solid piece with a single large arch, a flat foot and two trees, so it holds its shape when cut from card and stood upright between layers.
