Free rose SVG files

Free rose SVG files drawn by code: open roses seen from above, roses and buds on stems with thorns and leaves, outlines, and templates for rolled and layered paper roses. Every one is a clean welded shape.

How these roses are drawn

A rose has no outline that says rose on its own; the petals inside do the work. In the open roses each petal lies over the ones outside it, and its edge is cut as a channel between 1.2 and 2.2 mm wide at 100 mm. Each channel is left uncut at two short points. Those small bridges tie every petal to the ones behind it, so the rose lifts as one piece and no loose crescents are left on the mat.

Cut the open rose at 80 mm or more in card. Below that, use the simple rose with twelve petals, whose channels are wider. In vinyl both weed cleanly from the middle outwards.

Stems, thorns and leaves

The stems are 3 to 4 mm wide when the design is 100 mm tall, and the thorns are small hooked triangles on the stem. A rose leaf is made of leaflets in threes or fives with saw-toothed edges; the leaves here follow that, which is what makes them read as rose leaves and not as any leaf.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

How do I make a rolled paper rose from the template?

Cut the spiral from card of about 176 gsm at 120 to 150 mm across. Starting at the outer end, roll the strip tightly towards the middle, keeping the bottom edge level. Let the coil relax until it looks right, then glue it down onto the round base at the centre of the spiral.

Which rose is best for a single-colour vinyl decal?

The simple rose with twelve petals for anything under 60 mm, the open rose above that, and the rose silhouette when you want no weeding at all. For a long narrow space use the long stemmed rose.

Can I cut the leaves in green and the flower in red?

Yes. The layered rose is set up for it, with the leaves as their own layer. For the roses on stems, cut the whole file twice, once in each colour, and keep the bloom from one and the stem and leaves from the other.
