Free pie SVG files

Free pie SVG files for Thanksgiving and for bakers all year: a lattice apple pie, a pumpkin pie and a pecan pie from above, pies with heart and maple leaf vents, a steaming pie in its dish, a slice with cream and a layered slice in four colours. Each is one welded shape unless its note says otherwise.

What to make with them

Pie designs go on the things that carry pie: a tea towel over the dish, an apron, a wooden server, a recipe box, the lid of a carrier, and the label on a pie taken to someone else’s table. For a tea towel, cut a round pie about 150 mm across in heat transfer vinyl and press it near one end. For a label or a gift tag, the slice and the pie with one slice gone read best at small sizes. The three round pies that name a filling (apple, pumpkin and pecan) make a set for a Thanksgiving dessert table: cut each at 80 mm as a sign for the dish beside it.

Cutting notes

The round pies have a thin seam between the rim and the top, about 1.4 mm wide at 100 mm, with bridges across it: leave the bridges in when you weed, or the top comes away from the rim. The lattice has the most to weed, with small nicks where the strips cross, so cut it at 100 mm or larger and weed the diamonds first. The pecan pie is open between the nuts and is the easiest of the round ones. On a laser, every single-colour pie here cuts as one piece and makes a coaster or a trivet in 3 mm plywood.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

Which pie design is which filling?

The lattice top is apple, the smooth pie with cream is pumpkin, and the one covered in nuts is pecan. The pie with heart vents suits cherry, and the one with maple leaf vents suits any autumn pie. In one colour the shape of the top is what tells them apart, so pick by the top.

Can I add a saying to a pie design?

Yes. The round pies leave no room inside, so set the words in a curve above or below in your cutting software. The side view of the whole pie has clear space on each side of the steam and below the dish for a line of lettering.

How small can I cut the lattice pie?

About 80 mm across in vinyl. Below that the nicks at the crossings close up and the strips are hard to weed without lifting. For anything smaller, use the pecan pie, the slice, or the pie with one slice gone.
