Ordered dithering
Bayer 2×2 dithering
A 2×2 threshold matrix tiled across the picture. Only five tones are possible, so gradients turn into chunky bands of regular pattern.
Good for a deliberately chunky, digital look.
How it decides
0 2 3 1 thresholds (n + 0.5) ÷ 4
Each pixel is compared with the matrix value at its position, repeated every 2 pixels. n × n Bayer matrices give n² + 1 tones.

This runs in your browser. Change the algorithm, the number of cells or the threshold, or put a second algorithm next to it.
Rendered in 0.0 ms on your machine. Every dot here is what a pen or laser would put down.
All algorithms
Every one is an option in the Dither style: dither an image online and export a 1-bit PNG for a laser or SVG dots for a plotter.
