Free surfboard SVG files

Free surfboard SVG files: a striped shortboard, a silhouette standing in sand, an outline, a retro longboard, a board with hibiscus flowers, crossed boards, three boards in the sand, a board behind a wave, two surfers and a name sign. Stripes and flowers stop inside the rails, so every board is one piece.

Stripes that stop inside the rails

A stripe that ran right across a board would cut it in two. On these boards every band, flower and stringer line stops short of the edge, leaving a rail of about 2.5 mm all round when the board is 100 mm long, so each one lifts as a single piece. Put a second colour behind the cut-outs and the stripes show through.

A surfboard is long and narrow, about a quarter as wide as it is long, so it fits places other shapes do not: the spine of a notebook, the side of a tumbler, a bookmark, a keyring. For small work use the silhouette or the striped boards. The hibiscus board has petals between 4 and 6 mm long at 100 mm and is best cut at that size or larger.

Standing boards and scenes

The silhouette stands in a mound of sand on a flat base with one fin showing, so it sits level in a layered beach scene or along the bottom edge of a sign. The three boards in the sand and the two beach chairs do the same job at a larger size. The name sign is a wide longboard lying level, with bands at each end and the middle left blank for a family name or a house name. Cut it from plywood at 400 mm or more for a porch.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

What are the three surfboard shapes in this set?

The shortboard has a pointed nose and is the quick, modern shape. The longboard has a round nose and rails that run nearly parallel. The fish is short and wide with a swallow tail cut into a V. All three stand side by side in the design with three surfboards in the sand.

Can the stripes be a different colour from the board?

Yes. Cut the board from one colour and stick it over a second colour, which then shows through the bands. For three or more colours use the layered surfboard, which has the board, two bands, the stringer and the flower as separate pieces.

How do I put a name on the surfboard sign?

Open the file in your cutting software and set the name in the blank middle of the board, between the flower and the tail bands. For a painted wooden sign, cut the lettering as a vinyl stencil. For a decal, cut the name from a second colour and layer it on top.
