How the lollipop goes in
There are three ways. Where a design has a round hole, 4.6 mm across at the cut size in its note, push the stick straight through it from the front until the sweet sits against the card. Where it has two short slits, weave the stick in through the upper one and back out through the lower one; the slits are 7 mm long, enough for a stick up to 4 mm thick. The snowman works the other way round: the lollipop goes behind the card and shows through the window.
Size matters more here than for most files, because the hole has to fit the stick. Cut each holder at the size in its note and the holes are right for ordinary lollipops on paper or plastic sticks. Cut much smaller and the stick will not pass; cut larger and the lollipop slides about, though a dot of tape on the back cures that.
Card and sweets
Card of 200 to 250 gsm holds its shape on the stick; paper curls. The holders suit flat or ball lollipops 20 to 35 mm across. The reindeer is 100 mm tall and wants a red lollipop about 25 mm across for the nose; the bunny is 130 mm tall and wants a white one. The mitten is for candy canes and thick rock sticks: its straps open to take a cane up to 12 mm thick.
Leave the lollipop in its wrapper. The card touches only the stick and the wrapper, so any card or ink is fine, and the sweets can be given out straight from the holder.
How to open the files
- Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
- Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
- LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
- Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
- Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.
Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.
Questions
What size lollipop do these holders fit?
The stick is what matters: any lollipop on a stick up to 4 mm thick fits the holes and slits at the cut sizes given. The heads can be anything from a small 20 mm ball to a flat 35 mm disc; a larger head just covers more of the design.
The stick is too loose in the hole. What can I do?
Put a small piece of tape across the stick on the back of the card, or wrap one turn of washi tape round the stick where it passes through. Next time, cut the file a little smaller: at nine tenths of the size the hole is 4.1 mm.
Can I use the mitten for small candy canes?
Yes: cut it at half size, 55 mm tall, and the straps fit the mini canes that are about 6 mm thick.
