Free lily SVG files

Free lily SVG files drawn by code: the six-pointed flower from above, trumpets on leafy stems, an Easter lily, a tiger lily, calla lilies, a water lily on its pad, a monogram frame and a paper lily to make. Every one is a clean welded shape.

Four flowers called lily

True lilies have six tepals in two rings of three, the back three narrower than the front, and six stamens tipped with large anthers. From the side the flower is a trumpet, and its tips curl back. The Easter lily is the white trumpet kind; the tiger lily hangs its head and curls its spotted tepals right back into a ball, the shape called a Turk’s cap. A calla is not a true lily at all: it is one smooth sheet wrapped into a funnel round a central spike. A water lily is different again, a cup of many pointed petals floating on a round notched pad. Each has its own file here, so pick by the flower you mean.

The stamens and anthers are the finest parts. On the flower from above they are slits and small ovals cut into the broad tepals; on the trumpets they are thin stalks about 2 mm wide at 100 mm that stand clear of the petals. Cut the trumpet designs at 90 mm or more in card, and smaller only in vinyl.

Colours and occasions

White trumpet lilies belong to Easter and to sympathy cards, and white callas to weddings. Stargazer lilies are deep pink with a paler edge, which is what the layered file follows. Tiger lilies are orange with dark spots: cut the tiger lily in orange on a dark backing and the spots, which are holes, show dark as they should.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

How do I shape the paper lily?

Cut the six tepals from paper of 120 to 160 gsm. Fold each one lightly down its length to make the midrib, then curl the pointed end back over a pencil. Roll the stamen piece into a tube and glue it. Glue the tabs of the three broad tepals round the tube first, then the three narrow ones in the gaps behind them, and add the leaves below.

Which lily should I use for a wedding or a sympathy card?

For weddings, the three calla lilies tied with a ribbon or the single calla. For sympathy and Easter, the Easter lily with two trumpets or the lily trumpet with two leaves. All four are upright and narrow enough to sit beside a block of text.

Is a calla lily a real lily?

No. Callas belong to the arum family. What looks like one petal is a leaf-like sheath wrapped round a spike that carries the true, tiny flowers. That is why the calla files are drawn so differently from the six-tepalled lilies in the same set.
