Free plant SVG files

Free plant SVG files drawn by code: house plants in pots, from a monstera and a snake plant to a palm, a fern, a fiddle leaf fig, a plant on a stand and one in a macrame hanger. Each is one welded piece, pot included.

Pot and plant in one piece

Every design here is a single shape: the stems run down into the pot and the pot is welded to them, so nothing has to be lined up after cutting. The detail is cut out as slits and holes that stop short of the edge, such as the splits in a monstera leaf, the bands on a snake plant or the slot under the rim of a pot. Stems are 2.4 to 4 mm wide when the file is 100 mm tall, which is fine for vinyl from about 60 mm and for card from about 100 mm.

To cut the plant green and the pot terracotta, cut the file twice and trim both copies along the top of the rim, or build on the layered snake plant, which already has the pot and the leaves as separate pieces.

Which plant for which space

The shapes differ as much as the real plants do. The snake plant and the fiddle leaf fig are tall and narrow, good for bookmarks, door panels and the spine of a planner. The palm, the fern and the monstera are as wide as they are tall and fill a square card or a coaster. The three plants on a shelf are a wide strip for a mug wrap or the top of a wall calendar, and the hanging plant wants a corner with space below it.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

Which plant is easiest to weed in vinyl?

The seedling and the potted plant with oval leaves: both are made of a few large leaves with one slit each. The fern and the palm have dozens of small leaflets and are better cut at 120 mm or more.

Can I take the plant out of its pot?

Yes. In your cutting software, place a rectangle over the pot and slice or subtract it. The stems end just inside the rim, so trim them level at the same time and add your own pot, basket or vase.

How big should a plant decal be for a wall?

Close to life size looks best: 60 to 90 cm tall for the fiddle leaf fig or the snake plant, 40 to 50 cm for the monstera. The files are vectors, so they scale without losing their edges, and at that size every stem is over a centimetre wide.
