Free car SVG files

Free car SVG files: a saloon from the side, a sports car silhouette, an outline, race cars with a blank spot for a number, a muscle car, an antique car, a police car, a Christmas car with a tree on the roof and more. No makes, models or badges.

Wheels that stay on

On many car files the wheels are loose circles that have to be placed by eye. Here each wheel is welded to the body. A cut line follows the wheel arch over the top of the tyre and stops short at both ends, so the wheel reads as separate but lifts with the car. The spaces between the spokes are real holes: weed them out, or leave them in for a solid wheel.

Most of the side views are 100 mm long and 40 to 45 mm tall. The pillars between the windows are 2.5 to 3 mm wide at that size and the door lines are about 1.5 mm. In vinyl they cut well down to about 60 mm long. For wood and acrylic use 150 mm or more, or choose the sports car silhouette, which has only two windows cut from it.

Numbers and names

The race car, the stock car and the derby car each have a blank spot for a number: a roundel on the nose, a circle on the door, and a sign on the roof with a panel on the door. Add the number in your cutting software and cut it out of the car, or cut it from a second colour and lay it on top. The car monogram frame has a round opening for an initial.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

Which way do the cars face, and can I flip them?

All the side views face right. Mirror the file in your cutting software to make one face left. Nothing on these cars is lettered, so a mirrored car is as correct as the original.

Which car is best for a birthday shirt with an age on it?

The stock car racecar. The circle on its door is about 12 mm across when the car is 100 mm long, so on a shirt-sized print of 250 mm it is about 30 mm across, room for one or two digits. The race car with open wheels has a smaller roundel that suits one digit.

Are these real makes of car?

No. Each one is a type, such as a saloon, a muscle car or a lowrider, drawn from scratch without copying any maker’s shape, grille or badge. That keeps them safe to use on things you sell.
