Free karate SVG files

Free karate SVG files: a side kick, a lunge punch, a flying kick, a girl with a high kick, a standing bow, a sparring pair, a student standing ready, a tied belt, a gi jacket and a belt monogram frame. The fighters are plain silhouettes with no faces, and the uniform is drawn so it reads in one colour.

A uniform that shows in a silhouette

A bare outline of a kick could be any sport. What makes these karate is the gi: trouser legs that are wide to the shin and stop above a bare foot, sleeves that stop above a fist, a jacket that flares under the belt and two belt ends hanging at the front. Those details are part of the outline, so they survive at small sizes. The slimmest parts are the ankles and the belt ends, about 3 mm wide when a fighter is 80 mm tall.

For iron-on on a club shirt, the side kick or the lunge punch at 180 to 220 mm is usual. In card, lift a fighter from the hips and support the kicking leg. The tied belt and the jacket are solid shapes with a few slots, and go down to 50 mm for grading certificates and gift tags. Cut the belt in the colour of the grade: the rank bars near the ends are cut out, so a second colour laid behind shows as a stripe.

Kicks, punches and the quiet parts

The side kick, the high kick and the flying kick are the dramatic ones, and they suit posters and shirts. The lunge punch in front stance is the first technique most students learn, and it stands on a strip of floor for a shadow box. The bow and the student standing ready are the still moments of a class, which fit a certificate or a thank-you card for an instructor better than a kick does.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

How do I show the right belt colour?

Cut the tied karate belt or the belt monogram frame from vinyl or card in the colour of the grade. For a belt with a stripe, lay a second colour behind the rank bars, which are cut out near the end of each tail. On the layered punch the belt is its own layer, so change its colour before you cut.

Will the karate silhouette stand up in a shadow box?

Yes. The lunge punch stands on a straight strip of floor that runs under both feet and is part of the same piece. Cut it from card or 3 mm wood and glue the strip to the floor of the box. The front stance is wide and low, so it is steadier than a kick on one leg.

Can I use the kick for taekwondo or another martial art?

Yes. The flying kick is as much a taekwondo technique as a karate one, and the side kick is common to both. The uniforms differ in the cut of the jacket, which does not show in a silhouette. The bow in a gi and the crossed jacket are the ones most tied to karate.
