Free honeycomb SVG patterns
Free honeycomb as vector files: clusters with cells full of honey, lattices and stencils with even walls, a tile that repeats, dripping honey, and comb in a circle and a heart. Every cell is a true regular hexagon, so walls stay the same width and repeats meet exactly.

Lattices, loose cells and clusters
There are three kinds of file here. A lattice is the walls of the comb as one connected piece: you weed out the cells and what is left lifts in one go, which makes it the easy choice for vinyl and the only choice for a stencil or a laser-cut panel. Loose cells are the opposite, separate solid hexagons that need transfer tape to hold their spacing. Clusters are small uneven patches of comb, with some cells left solid to look full of honey, made to sit beside a bee, a name or a jar.
Wall thickness is what limits how small you can go. Each design page lists the thinnest wall at seven sizes. The walls here are from 1.6 mm on the fine mesh to 4 mm on the stencil at 100 mm. Keep them above 1 mm in vinyl and above 2 mm in 3 mm plywood or acrylic, where a thin wall chars through or snaps.
Filling a shape and repeating the tile
To fill a word or a shape with comb, lay the honeycomb pattern over it and use Slice in Cricut Design Space, Intersect in Silhouette Studio or Path, Intersection in Inkscape. Where the edge of your shape cuts a cell it leaves an open wall end, so add an outline of the shape afterwards if you want a closed border. Hexagons cannot repeat on a square, so the seamless tile is 100 mm wide and 86.6 mm tall: step copies by exactly those distances and weld them.
How to open the files
- Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
- Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
- LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
- Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
- Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.
Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.
Questions
How do I make the honey a different colour from the comb?
Cut the honeycomb cluster once in the comb colour. For the honey, cut the loose hexagon pattern in a second colour at a size where its cells match, and place single hexagons into the cells you want full. With layered iron-on, press the comb first and the honey cells on top.
Why is the seamless honeycomb tile not square?
A row of hexagons repeats every one cell width, but the rows repeat at a distance that is the square root of three times bigger, and no whole numbers of the two ever match. The tile is cut to one exact repeat each way, which comes to 100 by 86.6 mm.
Can I cut the honeycomb lattice in wood on a laser?
Yes. Use the stencil or the pattern at a size where the thinnest wall is 2 mm or more, and cut the cells before the outer edge so the sheet stays flat. The fine mesh has 1.6 mm walls at 100 mm, so cut it at 130 mm or larger in plywood.
