Free fairy SVG files

Free fairy SVG files: fairies standing, flying and sitting on a moon and a toadstool, a little girl fairy, a ballerina, pairs of wings, a wand, a trail of fairy dust, a fairy door and a fairy house. Each is drawn by code and welded into one piece.

Wings, wands and the fine parts of a fairy

A fairy is a slight figure, so these files have finer parts than most of the library. Every file is 100 mm on its longer side. At that size the arms are about 2.5 mm wide at the wrist, the wand is about 2 mm and the veins in the wings are about 2 mm. Vinyl and card hold that at 100 mm, and iron-on copes down to about 80 mm. For plywood or acrylic, scale a figure to 150 mm or more, or choose the fairy door, the fairy house or the wings, which are sturdier.

The wings are cut into windows rather than left solid. Put vellum, tracing paper or iridescent film behind them and the light comes through as it would through a real wing; on a window or a lantern the glass does the same job.

Fairy doors and fairy gardens

The fairy door is drawn to be cut from 3 mm wood and stood against a skirting board or the foot of a tree: the plank lines, hinges and stones are narrow slots, so they show as shadow lines after painting. The fairy on a toadstool and the fairy house suit plant markers and garden stakes. Seal anything that lives outdoors with exterior varnish on both faces and all edges.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

How do I make the fairy wings shimmer?

Cut the fairy from dark card and glue iridescent film, vellum or holographic vinyl behind the wing windows. For a shirt, press a layer of glitter iron-on first and the fairy on top, so the glitter shows through the windows.

Can I use the wings on a photo or with another design?

Yes. The fairy wings are a symmetrical pair with nothing between them but a narrow root, made to sit behind a child, a pet or a letter. Scale them until they are a little taller than what goes in front, then layer the other piece over the middle.

Which fairy is easiest to cut small?

The fairy wand, the fairy dust trail and the tooth fairy tooth have the thickest parts and work at 50 mm. The full figures have thin wrists and ankles, so keep those at 80 mm or more.
