Free dice SVG files

Free dice SVG files: a pair of dice, a single die, the six faces, three bunco dice, dice with heart pips, fuzzy dice on a cord, and the many-sided dice of role playing games from four sides to twenty, as outlines and as solids.

Six-sided dice

A die seen corner-on shows three faces, and on a one-colour cut the edges between them have to be drawn somehow. Here they are cut lines that run out from the near corner and stop just short of the outline, so the three faces stay joined round the rim. The pips are holes, squashed so they lie flat on each face. On the pair of dice a pip is about 5 mm across when the design is 100 mm wide, so cut it at 70 mm or more in vinyl.

The six faces are flat squares with round pips and are the ones to use for making dice: scale a face to the side of your wooden block and cut six in vinyl, or cut them as stencils and paint through the holes.

Many-sided dice

The four, ten, twelve and twenty-sided dice are drawn from their true corners and edges, as each looks with one face towards you. The faces are left blank on purpose: numerals depend on a typeface and are fiddly to weed. If you want the famous twenty on the front triangle, type it in your own font and place it in the middle. The outline versions suit engraving and pen plotting, and the solid ones suit vinyl and iron-on.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

How do I make yard dice with the six faces?

Measure one side of your wooden block and scale the six faces so each square is a little smaller than that. Cut them from outdoor vinyl and stick one on each side, or cut them as stencils from stencil film and paint the pips. Opposite faces of a die add up to seven.

Why is there no number on the twenty-sided dice?

The library has no lettering or numerals in it, so every face is blank. Add a number in your cutting software: on the D20 outline the front triangle is about 50 mm wide when the die is 100 mm tall, which takes two bold digits.

What are the small gaps in the cut lines for?

They are what holds the die together. If the edge lines ran all the way to the corners, each face would be a loose piece. Stopping the lines short leaves every face joined to its neighbours at the corners.
