Measure marks without numbers
A feeding bottle has a scale up its side, and a scale means numerals far too small to cut. These bottles keep the marks and leave out the numbers: six plain ticks, long and short by turns, each about 1.7 mm wide when the bottle is 100 mm tall. They are enough to say baby bottle at a glance and they weed in seconds. For a bottle with nothing on it at all, use the silhouette, or the monogram frame, whose body is an open band for a name or a birth date.
Nothing here is fragile. The slimmest part of the bottle is the tip of the teat, which is about 10 mm across on the 100 mm file, so these shapes suit felt, craft foam, card cake toppers and wooden shower signs as well as vinyl and iron-on.
A set for showers and nurseries
The bottle rarely travels alone. The pacifier, the two rattles, the bib, the diaper and the baby carriage are drawn in the same weight, so they sit together on a shower invitation, a diaper cake or a row of drawer labels. Nine of the designs are exactly the same on both sides, which helps when you fold a card or centre a decal. The garland pegs a bottle, a pacifier and a rattle to one line for a banner.
How to open the files
- Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
- Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
- LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
- Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
- Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.
Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.
Questions
Why are there no numbers beside the measure marks?
Numbers at that size would be under a millimetre tall when the bottle is cut as a decal, and they would tear rather than cut. The ticks alone read as a measuring scale. If you want amounts on a large sign, add them in your own lettering beside the long ticks.
Which design suits a baby shower invitation?
The baby shower garland across the top of the card, or the bottle with a heart on its own at 40 to 50 mm tall. For favour tags, the pacifier and the rattle with a bow are compact and the same on both sides, so they centre easily on a round tag.
Can I put a name or a birth date on the baby bottle?
Yes. Use the baby bottle monogram frame: the body is an open band, so a name set on its side or a date in two short lines fits inside it. Cut the lettering from a second colour, or let it touch the band and weld it for a single piece.
