Free fishing pole SVG files

Free fishing pole SVG files: a spinning pole with its reel, a curved pole with a fish on the line, crossed poles, a fly pole, a cane pole for children, a reel on its own, a tackle box, a fishing hat, a landing net and a boat. Every line ends in a hook, a float or a fish, so each design lifts in one piece.

A thin subject, drawn to survive cutting

A real fishing pole is a few millimetres thick and two metres long, which no blade can cut at craft sizes. These are drawn stouter than life: when a design is 100 mm across, the blank is between 2 and 4 mm wide, the grips are about 7 mm and the line is about 2 mm. The guides are small rings on the reel side of the pole, each with a round hole to weed.

The line never ends in mid air. It always runs to a hook, a float, a fish or a strip of water that is welded to it, so the pole and its line lift off the mat together. Even so, the line is the part to look after. Weed along it, not across it, and peel transfer tape back in the direction the line runs. For wood, acrylic and card, cut the poles at 150 mm or more, or choose the reel, the tackle box or the hat, which have no long thin parts.

Spinning, casting and fly

Anglers notice the details. A spinning reel hangs under the pole with the guides on the same side, which is how the pole with a float, the curved pole and the outline are drawn. The crossed poles are casting poles: a closed reel sits on top of the grip with a trigger underneath. The fly pole has a drilled reel behind one long cork grip and a line that rolls out in a loop. For a gift, match the pole to the way the person fishes.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

Will the fishing line survive on a small decal?

At 100 mm across the line is about 2 mm wide, which cuts and weeds well in vinyl. Under about 60 mm it gets too fine and starts to lift with the waste. For a small decal use the fishing rod and reel silhouette, which has no line at all, or the fishing reel on its own.

Why do the crossed fishing poles have a different reel?

A spinning reel hangs below its pole, and two of them would run into each other where the poles cross. A casting reel sits on top of the grip, so on the crossed poles each reel ends up on the outside. It is also how a real casting pole is built, trigger and all.

How do I add a name under the curved fishing pole?

Open the file in your cutting software, type the name and place it in the space below the arc of the pole, to the left of the fish. Overlap the first letter with the handle and weld the two if you want the pole and the name to cut as one piece.
