Plain bags on purpose

Every bag here is generic: a shape, a handle and a fastening, with no emblem, monogram canvas or house pattern. That keeps the files safe to use on things you sell, and leaves the front free for your own initial or wording. The tote, the monogram frame and the classic handbag have the most open space. On the solid bags the flap, hem and zip are slots about 1.5 mm wide when the bag is 100 mm tall, and the clasp is a small hole; none of them cuts the bag apart.

Folding the paper purse

The paper purse is the one file here that makes a real object. Cut it from card of 200 to 250 gsm at 150 mm tall or more. The two panels meet along the base, where a row of five short slots marks the fold: crease along them and bring the panels up to face each other. Glue the two side tabs to the inside of the scalloped panel, which leaves the top open, and tie the two handles together with ribbon. At 150 mm tall the finished purse is a little over 70 mm across the base, the right size for a few sweets, a gift card or a pair of earrings.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

How do I put a monogram on a purse?

Open the purse monogram frame or the tote in your cutting software, type the initial and size it to about half the width of the bag, centred a little below the middle. Cut the letter from a second colour, or attach it to the frame so both cut together.

What card should I use for the paper purse?

Card of 200 to 250 gsm folds cleanly and holds its shape. Thinner paper sags and thicker board cracks along the fold unless you score it first. Patterned scrapbook card with a plain reverse works well, since the inside shows at the top.

Which bag is best for a small sticker?

The purse silhouette or the tote. Both are broad shapes with a thick handle, so they stay clear at 25 mm. The mini purse on a chain and the leopard print bag need 90 mm or more.
