The heel is the fragile part

A stiletto heel is only about 4 mm wide when the classic shoe is cut 100 mm long, and it ends in a tip narrower still. In adhesive vinyl and iron-on that is fine: press the heel down firmly and peel the tape back along its length, not across it. In card, wood or acrylic, cut the shoe at 120 mm or more, or pick the wedge or the block heel, which have no slim parts at all.

All the shoes face left, toe first. Flip them in your software if you want them to face the other way, or to make a matching pair for the two sides of a box or bag.

Patterns, stones and layers

The leopard boot and the polka dot wedge have their pattern cut out as holes, so a second colour behind them does the work: gold card behind black, or glitter vinyl under matt. The rhinestone template is a row of holes along the outline. Cut it from template material or stiff card, brush hot-fix stones into the holes and lift them with transfer film. The holes are about 2.7 mm across in the 100 mm file, so scale the file until they match your stones.

How to open the files

• Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
• Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
• LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
• Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
• Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.
