Free hand SVG files
Free hands SVG files: an open hand, handprints, a thumbs up, a raised fist, praying hands, heart hands, a pointing hand and the peace, shaka and I love you signs. Folded fingers are marked with fine slits, so each hand reads clearly and still cuts as one piece.

Handprints for keepsakes
The handprint, the pair of child handprints and the baby handprint have no fine detail at all, so they cut cleanly at any size. To make one life-size, measure the real hand from the wrist crease to the tip of the middle finger and scale the file to that height. A newborn hand is about 6 cm long, a five-year-old hand about 12 cm and an adult hand 17 to 20 cm.
For a salt dough or clay keepsake, cut the handprint from card and use it as a template to trim round. For a family tree, cut one print per person in a different colour and overlap them from largest to smallest.
Signs and what to watch for
On the peace, shaka and I love you signs the folded fingers are shown by short U-shaped slits about 1 mm wide at 100 mm tall. Weed them out on vinyl, or leave them in at small sizes and the hand still reads from its outline. The thumbs up and the pointing hand have three straight slits between the stacked fingers, which run off the edge and need no weeding.
The open hand and the signs are drawn as a right hand seen from the palm. Mirror the file in your cutting software for a left hand, or to make the pointing hand point the other way.
How to open the files
- Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
- Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
- LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
- Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
- Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.
Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.
Questions
How do I make a handprint the real size of my child’s hand?
Measure the hand from the crease at the wrist to the tip of the middle finger. Open the handprint in your cutting software, lock the proportions and set its height to that measurement. The print has no wrist, so the height of the file is the length of the hand.
Is the thumbs up a left or a right hand?
It is drawn with the knuckles to the right and the cuff to the left. Flip it horizontally for the other hand. The two thumbs up design already holds one of each as mirror images.
Can I put a name or a date on the palm?
Yes. The handprint and the baby handprint have a clear palm about 45 mm across when the file is 100 mm tall. Slice short text out of the palm, or cut it from a second colour and layer it on. On the baby handprint the heart already fills the palm, so set the words underneath instead.
