Free balloon SVG files

Free balloon SVG files: a single balloon with a string, a plain balloon shape, an outline, three balloons, a bunch of seven, birthday balloons with stars, a heart balloon, a star balloon, a balloon dog and a hot air balloon.

Strings, bridges and bunches

A balloon string is the thinnest thing in the set: about 2 mm wide when a single balloon is 100 mm tall. Vinyl handles that well, and it weeds cleanly if you pull along the string, not across it. For card and wood, where a string would snap, use the balloon shape with no string and add real ribbon or twine.

In the bunches, a front balloon lies over the ones behind. A cut line about 2 mm wide runs round each front balloon so you can tell them apart, and a short bridge is left in every line so the whole bunch lifts as one piece. For balloons in different colours, use the layered design, where each balloon is whole and you simply stack them.

Adding a name or an age

The plain balloon shape is made to be written on. It is about 74 mm wide when it is 100 mm tall, which takes a short name or a two-figure age in bold lettering. Cut the lettering out of the balloon, or cut it from a second colour and lay it on top. The balloon outline does the same job with the lettering inside the line.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

How do I cut the bunch of balloons in several colours?

Use the layered balloons: each balloon is a separate whole shape, so cut one from each colour and stack them, back balloon first. The single-colour bunches are joined by small bridges and are meant to be cut from one sheet.

The string keeps tearing when I weed. What can I do?

Cut the design larger, slow the blade down and weed along the length of the string. Below about 60 mm tall, choose the balloon shape with no string or the simple balloon icon, whose string is more than twice as wide.

Is the balloon dog a copy of a famous sculpture?

No. It is the ordinary balloon animal that entertainers twist at parties, drawn from scratch: a body, four legs, a neck, a snout, two ears and a tail.
