Free tumbler template SVG files

Free tumbler template SVG files: flat wrap rectangles for 20 oz and 30 oz straight tumblers, a tapered wrap worked out from measurements, and ready-made wraps to cut from vinyl. Each note gives the size to scale the file to, because a template is only as good as its measurements.

The sizes, and where they come from

A wrap for a straight-sided tumbler is a rectangle: its width is the distance round the tumbler and its height is the height of the wall. The four rectangles here use the flat template sizes that one large maker of sublimation blanks publishes for its own straight tumblers: 9.325 by 8.125 inches (236.9 by 206.4 mm) for a 20 oz skinny, 10.3 by 9.6 inches for a 30 oz skinny, 11.2 by 7.725 inches for a wide 20 oz and 11.2 by 8.85 inches for a wide 30 oz. Tumblers sold by the ounce are not a standard: another maker's 20 oz can be a different height or girth. Wrap a strip of paper round yours, mark where it overlaps, measure the strip and the wall, and scale the file to those numbers if they differ.

The files are 100 mm wide, so they must be scaled up before use. Scale the width and the height together to the size in the note. For a sublimation print the template is the edge of the artwork. For adhesive vinyl, cut the wrap and test it in plain paper first: vinyl does not stretch to close a gap or shrink to lose an overlap.

Wraps for tumblers that taper

A cup that is wider at the rim than at the base needs a curved wrap, a slice of a ring. Measure round the rim, round the base, and up the side between them. The inner radius of the ring is the side times the base, divided by the rim less the base; the outer radius is that plus the side; and the angle of the slice, in degrees, is the rim divided by the outer radius, times 57.3. For the example here, 270, 210 and 160 mm, that gives radii of 560 and 720 mm and an angle of 21.5 degrees. Draw your own with those three numbers; the example file only fits a cup with the same measurements.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

What size is a 20 oz skinny tumbler template?

The maker's template these files follow is 9.325 by 8.125 inches, which is 236.9 by 206.4 mm, for a straight 20 oz skinny. Others publish sizes a little different for their own tumblers, so measure yours with a strip of paper before printing a full wrap.

Do the patterned wraps join at the seam?

Yes. The stripes, honeycomb, polka dots, heart borders, drips, split and pencil wraps each repeat a whole number of times across the width, so the left edge carries on from the right edge. That only works if the wrap is the right length for your tumbler: too long and the pattern overlaps, too short and it gaps.

Will these fit a tapered 20 oz tumbler?

No. The rectangles and the cut wraps are for straight-sided tumblers. On a tapered one a rectangle creeps upwards as it goes round and its ends do not meet squarely. Use the tapered template as a guide and work out the curve from your own three measurements.
