Golden spiral SVG

Golden spiral, drawn as a line — Golden spiral. The preview is the SVG file itself.

A true logarithmic spiral that grows by the golden ratio, about 1.618, every quarter turn. Unlike the Fibonacci spiral it has no joins: the curve tightens smoothly for ever.

How fine is it at your size?

Scaling a design scales its finest detail too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.

Size, width × height	Narrowest part	Cut length	Fit on a 12 in sheet	Rule of thumb
0.65 × 1 in (17 × 25 mm)	0.71 mm	120 mm	140	Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care
1.3 × 2 in (33 × 51 mm)	1.4 mm	240 mm	40	Vinyl, card and thin sheet
1.95 × 3 in (50 × 76 mm)	2.1 mm	360 mm	15	Vinyl, card and thin sheet
2.6 × 4 in (66 × 102 mm)	2.8 mm	481 mm	8	Vinyl, card and thin sheet
3.9 × 6 in (99 × 152 mm)	4.3 mm	721 mm	2	Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic
5.2 × 8 in (132 × 203 mm)	5.7 mm	961 mm	2	Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic
7.8 × 12 in (198 × 305 mm)	8.5 mm	1,442 mm	1	Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic

The narrowest part is the finest detail in the pattern. Below about half a millimetre it is too small to cut and may fill in when printed. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
